STUDENTS!!

SCALPC is your source for support, mentoring, and the information you need to know.  We are honored to walk with you as you work toward establishing yourself as a Mental Health Counselor.

Mentoring:
SCALPC makes itself available to answer student’s questions concerning: the Mental Health Counseling profession, the licensure process, testing requirements, and more.  See the bottom of this page to contact an SCALPC board member.

High quality training, at a very low price!:
All of our trainings are available to our student members, at a very discounted rate.  You can join seasoned counselors for some of the most informative and up to date training available. (see our Upcoming Events, and Become A Member page)

Legislative Intervention:
We have recently presented a proposal to the SC LLR board, that the post-graduate licensure title be changed from Intern to Associate. The term Intern is often frustrating to the newly licensed, as it seems to suggest that they are still in school.  It can also be confusing to clients who may assume the same; and may be hesitant to work with an “Intern” for fear they are not skilled.  We will continue pressing to bring clarity to this small but very important detail!

You Need To Know!

Taking the NCE may not be the best decision for pre-licensure testing:

The National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE) is slowly becoming more important to the licensed counselor.  In fact, Tricare (provides insurance coverage for military personal and their families) is making it a requirement that Mental Health Counselors must take and pass the NCMHCE, before being accepted on their panel, with some exceptions.
To find out more about this and other important changes in the counseling field, attend SCALPC’s upcoming training.  All our trainings are provided at a reduced price to students.  This training will be held on February 9th, 2013.  (See Upcoming Events page)
